Sunday Dinner at The Red Kite

The hubby and I are great fans of Sunday dinner.  Who can resist a fluffy Yorkshire or lashings of gravy!

Whilst the sun had its hat on we decided to visit The Red Kite at Winlaton Mill offering a generous £3.95 starter, £8.50 main and £3.95 pudding.

The pub is newly refurbished, with a modern twist on a country, reading room vibe.

Set in a great location just off the Derwent Walk it has a dog friendly policy and large beer garden.

The Mr went for a pork option and our +2 had beef.  This came with a big sharing dish of mash, cabbage, cauliflower cheese and carrots as well as plenty of gravy.  Sadly there was no vegetarian option along those lines so I opted for the pesto and mediterranean vegetable pasta.  The penne had lovely big chunks of pepper, aubergine and courgette in with a sprinkle of parmesan to top it off.

As nice as dinner is, we can all admit we’ve got one eye on pudding!  There was a wide selection on offer.  We opted for the cherry and almond chocolate brownie with black cherry compote and the chocolate and mint tart.  There was a choice of ice cream, custard or cream to go with them.  The brownie was dense, dark chocolate and the cherry flavour really came through.  The tart was lighter and more delicate.

We really enjoyed our meal here and will be back in the warmer months to make the most of the riverside walk nearby.
